Darren Stein has been fascinated with consumer behaviour since completing his Masters of Psychology degree in the late 90’s. Working on both the supplier and client side of the insights and analytics fence, he has established himself as a rare breed of leader who can understand the most complex of behaviours, simply distill the most complicated of outcomes and drive the most integrated of strategies while always focusing on the practicality of implementing the insights and maximising the ROI for the business. He is a fearless presenter who never shies away from the truth even if that means taking the odd bullet from the audience who may not be willing or ready to hear what their consumers have to say despite it helping them be more successful. Above all this, however, he prides himself on his ability to lift employee engagement and develop leaders.
Prior to joining Anomaly, Darren spent the past 4 years at News Corp Australia, where he was brought in in 2011 to lead the Insights, Analytics and Strategy function after building the division from the ground up. His focus on driving the consumer understanding throughout the business resulted in the delivery of several advancements for News such as the introduction of subscriber churn and digital acquisition propensity modelling, subscriber look-alike analysis, geospatial visualisation, dashboarding and usage based segmentation to name a few. Prior to News, Stein worked at Optus for 8 years in a variety of roles, the last of which was as GM of Insights, Analytics and Segmentation across the entire consumer portfolio.
